Dr. David Ajibade Uses Nutraceuticals to Effectively Treat Sickle Cell Anemia in Nigerian Youth

In Africa, Africa Innovators and Influencers, Health by Mary Kurek

While in the United States sourcing funds for his government-approved study, Dr. David Ajibade, Executive Director of the Brain and Body Foundation of Nigeria, sat down for a conversation with Frontrunners Innovate Publisher, Mary Kurek, to talk about the study and how his work with nutraceuticals is impacting youth with sickle cell anemia. The study is an important first step in achieving a very “doable” solution for alleviating sickle cell in Africa as a whole, and, actually requires a very reasonable amount of financial support to get it produced.  This is one project that has an immense impact. Please take a few minutes and meet the extraordinary Dr. David Ajibade (20-minute video).  See Dr. Ajibade’s bio below the video.

Bio:

Dr. David Dayo Ajibade is the Executive Director of Brain and Body Foundation (BBF), a 501 (c)(3) organization based in both Nigeria and the USA and focused on educating the Nigerian public on important health issues, providing innovative, practical, and safe solutions to challenging health conditions, and alleviating the suffering of medically fragile children (especially those diagnosed with severe brain disorders, genetic disorders, and sickle cell disease (SCD)). BBF holds free clinics every Friday for children from low-income homes.

Over the past five years, BBF has given out nutraceuticals worth over $490,000 to children and successfully treated over 350 children with SCD with an improvement rate of over 80% (many of these recoveries have been captured on video).  The Brain and Body Foundation works in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Health and The Nigerian Military to address health challenges using Dr. Ajibade’s unique approach to mental health concerns, brain disorders, and other non-communicable diseases in Nigeria and Africa.

The BBF has recently been commissioned by the Nigerian Government to carry out a landmark study on SCD to markedly change the way it is treated in Nigeria and around the world.

In the Media:

Dr. Ajibade currently hosts and presents a weekly TV show entitled: Your Health in Your Hands, an innovative show focused on educating the Nigerian public on health matters of special importance to people of African, specifically Black African origin. This 30-minute segment, which is the third most viewed show on Africa’s largest television network highlights issues affecting Africans and Nigerians in particular, including mental health/brain disorders, cardiovascular concerns (e.g. hypertension), and cancer, and is viewed at least five times a week by millions both within and outside the country. Through this program and others, Dr. Ajibade hopes to bring these and other facts to our national consciousness and, more importantly, equip Nigerians with the knowledge they need to adequately address them. Through the media, live seminars, training, and partnerships, he is focused on bringing his experience, expertise, and connections to improving the delivery of health care in Nigeria and of the health of Nigerians as a whole.
