Breast Cancer Hope for African and Caribbean Women – Surgeon and Survivor Stories

In Africa, Health, Podcast, womensempowerment by Blessing Enofe

Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addai wears many hats – all involving her work to impact women’s health, especially breast cancer. She is a consultant in breast cancer management, the CEO of Peace and Love Hospitals in Ghana, and the President and Founder of Breast Care International, among other positions.  She is the first Ghanaian female Specialist General Surgeon and a champion for women everywhere battling this disease. Her aim is to educate women to get the help they need early on so that they don’t wait until so late in the disease when options are few.  Her medical journey is sprinkled with stories of success and sadness and the wins are coming slowly, as we learn how breast cancer impacts African women more and now we know that even younger women are being diagnosed.

In this special “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” episode, we also hear from Tricia George of the UK, a young breast cancer survivor who talks about her journey and how her diagnosis started with a misdiagnosis. Thanks to Michaelene Holder-March of MHM Health Consultancy, Ltd. for making the connection to these wonderful women for us to learn from and to Claude Nogard of ErgoSuture for sitting in as co-host.
